Excerpt from What I Remember, Vol. 2 of 2
My mother neglected no means of making the facts stated in her book authentic and accurate, and the mire erz scene of her story graphic and truth ful. Of course I was the companion of her journey, and was more or less useful to her in Searching for and collecting facts in some places where it would have been difficult for her to look for them. We carried with us a number of introductions from Lord Shaftesbury to a rather strange assortment of per sons, whom his lordship had found useful both as collectors of trustworthy information, and energetic agitators in favour of legislation.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book offers readers an intimate insight into the mind and travels of a writer who was very much a product of his time. The author, like many young men of the era, was dissatisfied with a stationary existence and sought adventure on the continent in the 1800s. This engaging autobiography is as much a cultural document of the era as it is the story of one man's journey. Within, the reader will find observations on class structures, the role of the monarchy, social customs, and the conditions of the poor. Also included is a record of his journey through Brittany, a place that was relatively unknown to the average English traveler of the day. It details the customs and people of the region, and opines on everything from architecture to dining habits. This book is an important historical account of daily life in the early 19th century, and an adventure story all at once. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
