However, as it was profeifedly intended to carry on the good Work of converfion, and boails of profelites from all quarters, both of clergy and laity, who are daily crowding to your {tandardz as it treats of matters, which every well-meanin g chrii'tian ought to be truly informed in, efpecially at a time when a fet of new reformers are fo ready with their advice, and fo fluent in their ha tangues to the people, I take the liberty of thus addiefiing myfelf to you on the fub jcé't of it*.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an 18th century examination of the evangelical revival, and Methodist movement in particular, which engaged the interest of both religious and non-religious readers. The author was a clergyman and don at Cambridge and questioned both the emotionalism and the theology of the new movement. He rejected the idea that faith came through the operation of the spirit and miracles and predicted that the excesses of Methodist enthusiasm would wane - a prediction borne out by the development of Wesleyanism into a respectable religious denomination.
