Synopsis

Excerpt from Daniel Quayne: A Morality

The newcomer stuck his manure-fork in the ground at his feet, and taking a Short clay pipe from the pocket of his sleeved waistcoat struck a match on its bowl and blew out a stream of pungent odoured tobacco. Without removing the pipe from his lips he spat skilfully over his right shoulder, jerking his head round with a curious, bird-like motion.
