Excerpt from Seventeen Discourses on Several Texts of Scripture: Addresses to Christian Assemblies, in Villages Near Cambridge, to Which Are Added Six Morning Exercises
That he might have a more ready access to scarce books, it was a part of his plan to reside a few days in every month in London. This design, however, was soon given up as impracticable, for so much was he sought after as a preacher, that he found his attention perpetually diverted from his studies. Appointments were made by his friends for preaching every day in the week, and so slowly did his history advance in the midst of these interruptions that he was glad to escape from them to his farm, his family, and his people, in the country. Here he was kindly favoured with books from the University, and occasionally from London, and here he completed the History of Baptism.
