About the Author

Inez Haynes Irwin (1873-1970) was an American suffragist, writer, feminist, journalist, and president of the Author’s Guild. Born in Brazil to American parents, she grew up in Massachusetts and attended Radcliffe College. After divorcing her first husband, she married writer William Henry Irwin in 1916 and lived in London, reporting on World War I. She became involved in a number of feminist and leftist causes and a respected writer. After her husband died in 1948, Irwin lived in Sciutate, Massachusetts, until her death in 1970.
