Synopsis
Excerpt from Philological Essays
I fear that some traces of haste will be visible in what I am now putting out; but I have two pleas in excuse: first, that the head-master of a school of nearly four hundred boys has little leisure for other work and secondly, that such leisure cannot now be expected to be very productive for one who has entered his seventieth year.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a selection of philological papers by the author. The papers deal with various aspects of language, including the history of the prepositions 'in' and 'em,' the etymology of the word 'ink,' and the origin of the Latin verb 'obsoleo.' The author argues that the Latin preposition 'in' is derived from the Greek preposition 'ava,' which means 'up' or 'on,' and that the Latin preposition 'em' is derived from the Greek preposition 'en,' which means 'in' or 'within.' The author also argues that the word 'ink' is derived from the Latin word 'incaustum,' which means 'a liquid for writing,' and that the Latin verb 'obsoleo' is derived from the Latin verb 'obsolesco,' which means 'to grow out of use.' The author's arguments are based on a close examination of the historical and linguistic evidence, and they provide new insights into the history and development of language. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781331233244_0
