Such, gentlemen, is the discourse I herewith present ye and in that being now no longer mine, but yours, as none are more able, be also as pleased to defend it; or so kind, at least, to say this of your old acquaintance: That he spoke his thoughts.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, John Wilson grew up on the Isle of Skye and outside Glasgow without the slightest idea that he would ever write books. After a degree in Geology from St. Andrews University, he worked in Zimbabwe and Alberta before taking up writing full-time and moving out to Lantzville on Vancouver Island in 1991. John spends significant portions of his year travelling across the country telling stories from his books. For more information, visit johnwilsonauthor.com.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is an exploration of dramatic works published in the late 17th century and attributed to John Wilson, a lawyer and politician with Jacobite sympathies. At the time, theatre was a key platform for political expression, and Wilson's plays tackled issues of loyalty and power through entertaining comedies ripe with wordplay, mistaken identities and satirical subplots. This book includes four of the author's most famous plays, Andronicus Comnenius, The Cheats, Belphegor and The Projectors, exploring themes of class, religion and gender within a Restoration context. The author's extensive knowledge of law and politics and his unique vantage point as a Jacobite supporter are evident throughout his works which offer contemporary insights into the social and political landscape of the late 17th century. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781331047766_0
