Excerpt from The Creative Experience: An Intimation of Immortality, the Drew Lecture for 1922
Eight years ago it was my privilege to stand in this place and deliver the Drew Lecture. How much has happened since that time. We were in the first months of the Great War, and in the new strange world in which we found ourselves were feeling our way towards some stable moral foundation upon which our faith could rest. At a time so incredibly chaotic the fate of the individual seemed to matter little. Even personal immortality became for the moment a thing of secondary importance. There was a major question which claimed our attention, the question of the existence and of the government of God. Had the world cut loose from its moral moorings, or was it still - in spite of all appearances to the contrary - under divine control?

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book investigates the human experience of creation, where one conceives enduring ideals and embodies them in forms that outlive themselves. The author argues that creations, whether material or impalpable, possess a unique combination of unity, meaning, originality, and permanence. Tracing the creative experience across various spheres of human endeavor, the book suggests that creating brings forth joy and enrichment as it allows individuals to express and share their insights with others. By analyzing the nature of creation, the book presents an argument for personal immortality, positing that the value and significance of individual existence point toward a continuation of life beyond death. Its insights offer a compelling perspective on the human capacity to create, the enduring nature of meaningful creations, and their potential implications for our understanding of the human condition and the nature of existence This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
