Synopsis

An urgent, historically grounded letter on England’s role in a dangerous global crisis. This nonfiction work presents Alfred Austin’s ardent appeal to the Earl of Beaconsfield, arguing that Britain must clearly define its foreign policy to protect the empire’s future. The text blends critique, historical context, and a call for decisive action.

In these pages, the author analyzes Russia’s ambitions in Asia, the fate of the Ottoman Empire, and the possible consequences for Britain. Written in a period of great tension, the work urges candor about the risks and outlines the kinds of warnings and measures a prudent government should consider.

  • Clear assessment of Britain’s strategic position in Asia Minor and the Eastern Question

  • Arguments for transparent leadership and timely policy announcements

  • Discussion of potential consequences if Britain remains silent or indecisive

  • Conversations about deterrence, diplomacy, and the possible use of force

Ideal for readers seeking historical perspective on imperial policy and the pressures that shape national decisions in times of international crisis.

About the Author

Benjamin Disraeli is perhaps the best known and certainly the most colorful of Britain's Prime Ministers during the long reign of Queen Victoria. He was also a prolific writer. His novelistic trilogy: Sybil, Coningsby, and Tancred and later works: Lothair and Endymion would alone earn him a special place in English life and literature, but it is his career as the leading Conservative of the century and writings and speeches on events of the age that earn him a special place in the pantheon of parliamentary politics.
