Excerpt from The Northern Crown
Shasta, Friday June 24. Came by stage to to this place. Met and was introduced to Doctor Simms of New York, the great phrenologist, who is lecturing here. I attended Dr. Simm's lecture tonight, it was most instructive and entertaining. After the lecture, went to the Masonic banquet. Met Sadie Pelham whom I had known before. Had a very pleasant time. Danced a few quac rilles. Was introduced to many of the leading families here. Have made arrangements to lecture on Sunday evening.
Saturday. Many nice people called today. Attended Dr. Simm's lecture this evening.
