Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the relationship between law and public opinion in England during the 19th century. The author argues that throughout the century, legislative opinion was predominantly shaped by one school of thought or another at the time. Leading up to the 20th century there was a gradual shift, one which away from the 'laissez-faire' ideals of the mid-Victorian era and toward new ideas such as universal suffrage and public health. The author argues that many of the legislative changes that took place during these years, such as the Old Age Pensions Act and the National Insurance Act, were a direct result of this shift in public opinion. This book argues that the change in opinion resulted in many legislative changes in England, particularly those concerning public welfare and general quality of life for citizens. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781330896815_0
