Excerpt from The Method of Jesus, an Interpretation of Personal Religion
IN recent theological thinking a wide gap exists between two schools. Conservatives re iterate time-worn conceptions. Progressives proclaim views so far in advance that only spe cialists can keep pace with their rate of speed. Between the two the great mass of Christians, dissatisfied with the old theology because of its Obvious inadequacy, yet not understanding the new, stand in perplexity, uncertain what to be lieve. All such need to know that the new theology, wherein true, is really involved in, and as yet but partially evolved from, the Old.
Theology is but man's attempt to state his conception of the divine nature and the divine laws. AS man develops in capacity to appre ciate the Infinite, and perceives ever a little more clearly the Operations of divine energy and the expression of divine thought, his the ology must change; it cannot remain at a standstill. But he will need no new Bible.

Jesus proclaimed himself as the only means, end, and power for achieving salvation and a life free from sin. The author contends that Jesus' emphasis on himself rather than on theological tenets, works, or faith sets his teaching apart from other religious figures and philosophies.
