Synopsis

In a storm-lit Caribbean isle, a dramatic poem unfolds around power, faith, and freedom. A wealth of plantation life collides with rising slave unrest, testing loyalties and the conscience of every character amid a volatile fateful night.

Set on a Martinique-like island, this verse drama follows Zamba, a noble African prince-turned-slave keeper, and a cast of planters, a Protestant missionary, and faithful servants. As tensions flare, secrets, rival ambitions, and moral reckonings push each figure toward a perilous confrontation with
truth, loyalty, and mercy. The work blends political history with spiritual reflection, exploring how religion, power, and pursuit of liberty shape destinies on both sides of the plantation gates.

  • Experience a sweeping drama of insurrection, alliance, and personal sacrifice set against colonial power.

  • Meet a diverse cast—from a noble slave to a missionary—each wrestling with faith, duty, and justice.

  • Watch the lines between friend and foe blur as ambition fuels danger and mercy becomes a act of courage.

  • Feel the mood of a dramatic poem crafted to evoke atmosphere, motive, and moral consequence.

Ideal for readers who enjoy historical dramas in verse, and stories that probe the costs of freedom and the weight of compassion.

This person is commonly an artful, intelligent negro man or woman, who, obtaining a knowledge Of plants, uses them with mischievous intent, for gain, malice, or revenge.

The practice of administering poison to the most valuable slaves on an estate, as well as to the cattle, is not uncommon, and the punishment which succeeds is often terribly cruel. The suspected are not un frequently tortured to extort confession. Cases Of this kind fell, most painfully, under my own Observation. The instigator to this mischief was sometimes the most favored slave.
