Synopsis

Explore how the soul is both unity and plurality, and how beings stay connected across bodies.

This edition presents Plotinus’s deep questions about the soul, its unity, and how it can be present throughout a world of many bodies. It delves into how one universal Soul can be the source of many individual souls, and how perception, love, and sympathy reveal a shared life among beings. The text also contrasts divisible and indivisible forms, explaining how the soul remains whole while animating many parts.

  • See how the soul can be simultaneously one and many, without losing its core unity.
  • Learn about the difference between indivisible Being and the divisible forms within the world.
  • Explore how sympathy and love hint at a shared existence among separate beings.
  • Grasp how a seed-like unity can give rise to many souls while staying complete.
Ideal for readers of ancient philosophy, especially those curious about Plotinus, metaphysics, and the nature of the soul.

Excerpt from Plotinos Complete Works, Vol. 1: In Chronological Order, Grouped in Four Periods

The writer, having no thesis such as Drews' to justify, will welcome all corrections and suggestions. He regrets the inevitable uncertainties of capitalization (as between the supreme One, Intelligence world-soul and Daemon or guardian, and the lower one, intel ligence, soul and demon or guardian); and any other inconsistencies'of which he may have been guilty; and he beseeches the mantle of charity in view of the stupendousness of the undertaking, in which he prac ticaly could get no assistance of any kind, and also in view of the almost insuperable difficulties of his own career. He, however, begs to assure the reader that he did exerything ad majorem Dei gloriam lndex.
