About the Author

Arthur Cecil Pigou (1877-1959) was chair of political economy at Cambridge from 1908 to 1943 and published more than thirty books and 100 pamphlets and articles. In his lifetime, he witnessed the rise and demise of Marshallian economics, which he embraced wholeheartedly, systematized, and extended to areas unexplored by Marshall himself.
