Synopsis

Excerpt from Educational Essays

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the fundamental principles of education, exploring the intricate relationship between ethics and pedagogy. Set against the backdrop of evolving educational theories, particularly the Herbartian movement, the author challenges conventional approaches and advocates for a more holistic and socially conscious model of education. The central theme revolves around the idea of the school as a microcosm of society, where moral development is intrinsically linked to social interaction and active participation in a community. The author critiques the limitations of traditional methods that prioritize rote learning and individualistic competition, arguing instead for an educational experience that fosters collaboration, creativity, and a sense of social responsibility. Through insightful analysis of various school subjects, such as geography and history, the book demonstrates how curriculum and teaching methods can be designed to cultivate a deeper understanding of the social environment and equip students with the skills to navigate and contribute to it effectively. The author's exploration of character development emphasizes the importance of nurturing not only intellectual abilities but also emotional intelligence, good judgment, and a sense of purpose. Ultimately, this book serves as a compelling call for educators to embrace a philosophy of education that recognizes the profound impact of schools on shaping individuals and society as a whole.
