Excerpt from The Merry Devil of Edmonton
Is this an allusion to the poem? If so, it upsets my theory of early date of composition, 1597-8, and shows that it could not have been written until 1600 or after, unless copies of the poem were handed about in ms. Some years before it was printed, which appears to have been not unusual in those days.
