A historical sermon account on the 150th anniversary of the United Church, offered as a window into early American church life.
This nonfiction work compiles a historical discourse given by Rev. Theodore Thornton Munger, tracing the formation and evolution of the United Church through key leaders, congregational splits, and the rise of the White Haven and Fair Haven societies. It combines narrative history with period anecdotes, including notes from longtime members and details about church buildings, governance, and revival movements that shaped the denomination’s path.

- Explore the tensions between differing religious movements and how they affected church unity and property.
- See snapshots of historic buildings, meeting-house traditions, and the community life that surrounded worship.
- Get a sense of how nonprofit church governance and civil authority interacted in a colonial and early American setting.

Excerpt from Historical Discourse: Preached on the One Hundred and Fiftieth Anniversary of the Organization of the United Church May 8th, 1892
Mr. Bostwick of New York, who was present at the services, was the third child baptized in the present church edifice.
On April 28th, 1879, the late Hon. Henry E. Pardee, then clerk of the Society, presented at its annual meeting, a carefully prepared sketch of its history. The thanks of the Society were voted to Judge Pardee for his labor of love, and the paper was recorded at length in Volume 7 of its Records. To make the result of his researches more clearly accessible here after to the members of the congregation, the sketch is now printed in this pamphlet, which has been compiled hy'a committee of the church.
The following vote of the Society was passed at its annual meeting, May sth, 1892.
