Excerpt from Discourses, Argumentative and Devotional, on the Subject of the Jewish Religion, Vol. 1 of 2: Delivered at the Synagogue Mikveh Israel, in Philadelphia, in the Years 5590-5597
IN the following work the reader is presented with the labour of more than six years. Many of the Discourses were composed, when suffering both under mental and bodily afflictions, when any exertion was extremely painful; and it must not be imagined, that, what appears to read smoothly, and as if written off-hand, costs not an intense degree of thought and application. Very often the labour was interrupted by severe sickness and other nu toward events, and hence the frequent long intervals between the different treatises. Still I never relaxed in my endeavours to diffuse religious and useful knowledge, and I fervently trust that I have succeeded, to a certain extent, to impart some information which is not readily accessible in books in general circulation.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book takes the form of a series of sermons by Rabbi Isaac Leeser, each written and delivered over six years. The sermons cover a wide range of subjects, from daily life and human nature to specific Jewish festivals and historical events. In these sermons, the author intertwines the Old Testament with his personal reflections on how its teachings can apply to modern life. One sermon focuses on the importance of strong faith in God, while another looks at the ways in which a lack of faith can lead to sin and rebellion. Another sermon exhorts the reader to maintain courage and strength in the face of challenges. The author uses examples of Jewish history to illustrate his points, arguing that they are still relevant to Jews today and can provide encouragement and instruction in various situations. Throughout his writing, the author interjects his personal experiences and insights on religion and spirituality.
