Excerpt from Essays on Evolution 1889-1907
It will, I think, be realized that, although the separate essays were delivered as addresses or published on various occasions and at very different dates, they are the expres sion of a continuous line of thought, and therefore fall together as naturally as if they had been written at one time, for the purposes of the present volume. A certain amount of overlap is necessary in essays dealing with closely related subjects. Any inconvenience from this cause and the scattered use of examples, in evitable in an essay, will be removed by consulting the Appendix and the analytical index, to the preparation of which much time and labour have been devoted.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a collection of essays that examine the evolution of species through the lens of Natural Selection. The author traces the history of scientific thought on the topic, from the influence of Darwin and Wallace in the 19th century to the groundbreaking discoveries of Mendel and the present day. The author challenges the idea that evolution occurs through sudden changes or mutations, arguing instead that it is a gradual process driven by the accumulation of small variations over time. The book also explores the relationship between genetics and the environment in shaping the evolution of species, and the significance of protective coloration and mimicry in the struggle for survival. This book offers a comprehensive and thought-provoking exploration of evolution, providing valuable insights into the mechanisms that have shaped the diversity of life on Earth.
