But those who speak Spanish do not ordinarily know the verbs, yet they speak the language.
This is true to a limited extent; but it is also true that such persons have, from infancy, heard the tongue spoken by their parents and daily associates, during a period when their minds were plastic and receptive, and sound alone was sufficient to impress them. Granting this to be true, children at the age of six years cannot read, write, or even understand thoroughly the most ordinary social conversation, and at no age can a person who has never made a careful study of the verbs occupy a public or commercial position, for in all walks of life a perfect understanding of the language and the ability to express ideas correctly is absolutely essential to the successful man or woman. It may be added that the subtle beauties of the delightful masterpieces of Spanish litera ture are only to be enjoyed by those who completely understand the verbs.
