Excerpt from Teachers Course in Latin Composition
It has been the writer's privilege to teach all grades of Latin composition in college for a period of about twenty years. His first experience was with a freshman class so huge that it required divi sion into four sections of about thirty students each. Happily for the raw instructor, the reader appointed to assist him proved to be a man of untiring indus try, who willingly compiled and presented weekly a list of the mistakes most commonly made.
These lists were filed away at the time without full appreciation of their real value. It was only when subsequent classes developed very similar lists of common mistakes that it was borne in upon the writer that he was dealing with liability to error that could be very accurately defined.
