Whilst admitting that the success of the design of an engineer ing structure largely depends upon the sound judgment of the engineer, such judgment must be founded on the basis of the fundamental principles of statics - the ignoring of which would lead to waste or possible disaster.
This treatise may be taken as an attempt to set forth these fundamental principles.
