March 19th, 1813. His father and mother were peo ple of lowly station, and he was reared in poverty. The story of his origin is briefly told in the simple inscription which he caused to be placed upon the monument to his parents, at a time when the highest in the land were show ering compliments upon him.
To show the resting place of neil livingstone, and agnes hunter, his wife, and to express the thankfulness to God of their children, John, David, Janet, Charles and Agnes, for poor and pious parents.
