Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book studies a proposed bill in the British Parliament in the 18th century. The bill, spearheaded by the Earl of Oxford, is unprecedented in its intention to allow testimony from witnesses against a named individual accused of corruption and mismanagement of public finances, without first presenting evidence of a specific crime. The author examines the bill within the context of English law, natural justice, and the principles of the British constitution. Through a historical analysis of precedents in English law, the author questions the bill's compatibility with the existing legal framework and argues that it undermines the rights of the accused and sets a dangerous precedent for future legislation. Ultimately, the book sheds light on the importance of upholding legal principles to protect individual liberties and ensure justice for all.
