The author's object is to bring cases demonstrated at the clinic into the general perspective of psychiatry, and to enable the student to fill up the gaps which the clinic must necessarily omit in the limited time given.
It is readily understood that in this volume clinical histories could not be included. It 'is especially true of psychic diseases, as well as of ailments included in the general study of medicine, that clinical histories do not give an actual picture of the dis ease to him who would learn to know it. Clinical instruction alone can teach this.
