Synopsis

Excerpt from Shakespeare's Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: Edited With Notes, an Introduction and Outline Questions

The play of Hamlet, in its accepted form, was first published in 1604. Shakespeare was then forty years old, and had lived in London, it is supposed, since 1586. During these eighteen years he seems to have been absorbed in the practical demands of theatrical life, and to have been essentially denied the literary means of enlarging his preparation for the playwright's work. That he was able thus to produce in Hamlet one of the most remarkable examples of secular litera ture in the world sufficiently proves the genius of the man. Other plays of Shakespeare are more finished, or evince a nobler art; but none has aroused such interest, or become the subject of so much study, and comment, and discussion.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book, a profound philosophical interrogation in the form of a tragedy, delves into the themes of mortality, madness, and the nature of justice. Hamlet, the protagonist, becomes consumed by a quest for vengeance after the ghost of his father reveals he was murdered by his uncle, who then married Hamlet's mother. The play explores the complex themes of grief, betrayal, and the slippery slope of revenge, while delving into the depths of Hamlet's psyche. It also examines the idea of a noble character in a world of corruption and deceit, echoing the Elizabethan preoccupation with the responsibility and power of the individual. As the story unfolds, the play deepens in its exploration of these themes, offering a timeless examination of the human condition and the complexities of justice and revenge.
