Synopsis

Excerpt from Recent Progress in the Study of Variation, Heredity, and Evolution

Adequately to acknowledge Mr. Bateson's influence upon these pages is a more difficult matter, and not the less so because I have deliberately refrained as far as possible from consulting him whilst the book was in course of preparation, in order that it might retain if possible some traces of individuality. It is therefore clear that he is in no way responsible for its deficiencies. But, apart from the fact that I am conscious of having quoted his ideas at more points than could possibly be acknowledged seriatim, I owe to Mr. Bateson both my first introduction to the science of genetics, and a continual fund Of encouragement in the prosecution of studies connected with it.

Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book introduces the field of genetics, first coined by the author, through an exploration of the intersection of variation, heredity, and evolution. Essentially an account of advancements in these fields from the re-emergence of Gregor Mendel's theories in 1900 and onward, with references to Darwin's earlier work on evolution, the author presents the latest scientific findings in genetics, using examples from both the plant and animal kingdoms to illustrate theories. The book highlights how the study of genetics is revolutionizing our understanding of inheritance and variation within species, how adaptations evolve, and how new species come into being. Engaging and accessible, this book is an ideal starting point for those wishing to understand the most recent developments in genetics and the implications these findings have for our understanding of the natural world. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item. Seller Inventory # 9781330279137_0
