IN preparing for printing these extracts from my Diary, I have selected only what I think may be of interest to my personal friends, for whom this little volume is intended. The names Of many Of our friends with whom we spent'pleasant days and evenings have been omitted, because, although we shall always remember them with the kindliest feelings, their names could not be of interest to most of our friends at home.
