Synopsis

""The Hero In French Decadent Literature"" is a literary analysis of the concept of heroism in French decadent literature, written by George Ross Ridge. The book explores the ways in which writers of the French decadent movement, such as Joris-Karl Huysmans, Stphane Mallarm, and Oscar Wilde, challenged traditional notions of heroism in their works. Ridge argues that these writers rejected the heroic ideal of self-sacrifice and instead embraced a more individualistic and hedonistic approach to life. The book also examines the influence of Nietzschean philosophy on the decadent movement and the ways in which it shaped their ideas about heroism. Overall, ""The Hero In French Decadent Literature"" offers a fascinating insight into the literary and philosophical trends of the late 19th century and their impact on the concept of heroism in literature. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
