Get you over there behind that house with its back to the north, and in front of those hills to the northward, where you will be under the wind; you can wait there a while till it goes down, and then continue your journey. Obs. 1. The first clause is exclamatory, So great (ehe-mo ta-ti) a Dorth wind I 2. all that follows is imperative, and has reference to the scene before the speaker; na, that, is demonstrative of a place behind the nan fang, south house, = house looking north,--and in front of north hills, == hills north of the speaker. 3. where--under the wind; lit., that then, or just, (chiu,) is a place which shelters from, gives its back to the wind, (pei fing ti.) 4. wait; (hsieh-i-ksieh,) rest a rest, wait till, (ting,) the wind has stopped, then agaiu (tsai, compare 165, obs. 8, and yu in 312,) go, and there is au end of it, (pa.J 312. Now observe this wind; first comes a great gust, then a gentle puff; then it lulls, and then it blows again, each blow being harder than the preceding; a gusty wind as violent as this is will not go down in a moment.. Obs. 1. great gust; lit., you see this wind hasty (chin.) one bout, slack (man,) one bout. 2. butts; it halts a while, (fing i 'hui-tzi,) and again (yu. see 272, obs. 5,) blows a bout. 3. each--harder-preceding; lit., one bout compared with one bout great er. 4. gusty; lit., a wind of bouts or gusts (ehen-chenfeng,) thus violent (li-'hai, sharp-edged acd hurtful, but also used as intensive of many things not necessarily hurtful; e. g. talents, medicine, &c.) 5. go down in a moment; lit., io one time, in one moment, cannot then, or forthwith, (chiu,) stop.
