Besides his regiment other infantry regiments, of which he knew neither the number nor the names, a Dragoon regiment, and several batteries, had made the same march, but had turned off to the left before reaching Gr. Hermenau. In Gr. Hermenau there were only the Fusilier Battalion of the 41st Infantry Regiment and Dragoons. PROBLEM Intentions and orders of the Divisional Commander for December 2nd. DISCUSSION AND SOLUTION OF PROBLEM NO. 6 The information and reports received establish the fact that the East Division has advanced to the Narien lake. Moreover, as yet none of the statements made by the agent who came to Liebemiihl have been proved to be false: the 41st Infantry Regiment, said by him to have been at Wormditt, was actually at that place until November 30th. It may, therefore, be assumed that his other statements were correct. Accordingly, the East Division stands behind the Narien lake, with 15 battalions, 6 squadrons, and 4 batteries. It is not clear whether it will take the offensive or the defensive on December 2nd, but there are many evidences that the enemy proposes to keep on the defensive. For the offensive, two ways are open to the enemy--that through Gr. Hermenau, and that through Willnau. That he will take the latter can hardly be assumed, for why should he try to force his way through the difficult defile of Kl. Luzeinen, especially as it lies off the main road? But, if the enemy intends to advance through Gr. Hermenau, it is curious that he has not pushed his advanced guard further in front of this village, in order to facilitate the debouching of his main body.
