We are all ready to denounce drunkenness as the deadliest curse under which our poor and ignorant neighbours groan, and the greatest obstacle to their elevation. But are we as considerate as we ought to be for those peculiar provocatives and incentives to this evil to which they are subject? Do we make due allowances for inherited constitutional tendencies; for early and habitual training; for the force of example; for the exhaustion and stupor produced by physical toil; for the nervous depression caused by bad air, innutritious or insufficient food, and exposure to cold; and for the lack of such means of recrea ENSLAVING POWEK OF DHINK. Is there as much intelligent sympathy among us with the helplessness of the intemperate as there ought to be?
