Hear a noise, hear one's Voice, hear a cry, &c. Several are used with utter. Utter a cry, &c. All are used with prepositions, particularly with and without. With a loud report, without a groan, &c. All are used with possessives. The lion's roar, the roar of the lion, the sound of a bell, a man's voice, &c. Examples. Large bells give a loud clear sound, which can he heard at a great distance. A gentleman who was gunning,1 fired at a bird in a low bush; immediately he heard a scream. He ran round the bush, and found he had wounded a young lady who was picking berries. He was very sorry, helped her home, and paid the doctor. The Niagara river falls 160 feet with a noise louder than thunder.
