About the Author
Alois Riegl (1858-1905) fut conservateur au musee des arts decoratifs de Vienne. Sa mort prematuree l empecha de mener a bien l histoire de l art systematique qu il avait en vue. Il est a l origine de quelques-uns des concepts-cles de l histoire moderne de l art. Son influence a ete considerable. Etienne Jollet est professeur d Histoire de l art moderne a l Universite de Provence et directeur du Centre mediterraneen de recherches sur les relations entre les arts.
