THE annual completion of our volume, and the preparation of materials for that which is to follow, afford a proper occasion to retrace such occurrences of the past year as may concern the work, and to look forward to whatever may interest its future progress. The present volume, which forms the first of the second Hexade, or the seventh from the beginning of the work, has been conducted under all the circumstances of publtc favour and patronage which distinguished the publication of the preceding six.
