Borlca, February 15. 1710.1 In the Village of Boruca, on the fifteenth day of the month of February, one thousand seven hundred and ten: Don Lorenzo Antonio de Granda y Balbin, Governor and Captain-General of this Province of Costa Rica for His Majesty, as well as the others under his jurisdiction: in compliance with the orders I have received from the superior Government of Guatemala to enter and punish the insurgent Indians in the mountains of Talamanca for having killed the Reverend Fathers Fray Pablo de Rebullida and Fray Antonio de Zamora, apostolical missionaries, and ten soldiers and a woman and a child, I therefore make known to the natives of the said village of Boruca, and to the Tcxabas, and Terrabas, and to those of the Island of Toxar, that to those who shall come and yield obedience to the Governor and Captain-General of the King, our Master, I offer, in his Royal name, pardon for the offences they have committed, and those who shall not come I proclaim as rebellious traitors to their two Majesties, deserving of being burned alive, as they shall be in the war that I now declare against all who shall not come to yield obedience to the King, our Master, whom God guard many years as Christendom has need.
