Articles succeeded articles; the newspapers of Athens and Constantinople had leaders with the following headings in large letters: Antihellenic and Antinational work by the Heresiarch. Such terms by and by were eventually attributed to Pierre Loti himself. What an arm against heresy is the word of an academician! A professor of comparative grammar in the University of Athens was shielding himself behind the interview of the Takhydromos in order to brand with more violence the impious criminal. This fine outburst of indignation, however, has cooled down, for a moment, at the following publication, in the Asty1 of the 16th July, 1900; the original is dated Rochefort 2nd July.
