It is not an uncommon thing to witness rows of these wood blocks exposed along the sides of a stuff window, but it shows great slovenliness in the manner of placing. 2. The Silk Window must be arranged on the principle laid down for coloured goods. Supposing the window to be eight feet wide, it would accommodate four lengths of silk opened out. Let these be puffed to something like Fig. 1 or 2 in the coloured "Silk Window." If these figures are well placed and perfectly even a whole piece standing upright to the front between each puff will look well. Should the opened silks not be quite wide enough to cover the space, a length doubled over as in Fig. 7 may be introduced; or the puffed goods might be placed two and two, the centre and each end to be filled with some narrow figure; between each pair of puffs upright pieces may be placed. The window being sufficiently deep another row can be opened out as before; bonnets or caps taking the place of the upright silks. Something like Fig. 6 might take the centre place in this row, and a piece of crape at each end. Puffed silks, stuffs, or any prominent goods displayed in broadside order to the front, should in no case be depreciated by pushing a bulky figure between.
