Monumental erections or mortuary enclosures denote the family burial-places of Sir John Graham Macdonald, Bart.; Major-General Wardlaw; Major-General Peter Dudgeon; William Blackwood, merchant; R. C. Williamson; Douglas Maclagan, M.D.; and Haig of Bonnington. DALRY CEMETERY. This cemetery is situated in the south-western suburb, about two and a half miles from the General Register House; it was laid out in 1845. Within its enclosure a handsome monument celebrates Lieut.-General Sir Neil Douglas, K.C.B., Colonel of the 78th Highlanders and Commander of the Forces in North Britain. He died on the 21st September, 1853, in his seventy-ninth year. By an elegant monument is commemorated James Burnes, of Montrose, father of Sir Alexander Burnes, C.B., the distinguished traveller. His grandfather, James Burnes, was brother of William Burnes, father of the poet Burns. He was bor n in 1780 at Montrose, where for many years he practised as a solicitor and served as chief magistrate. He died at Edinburgh on the loth February, 1852. His wife Elizabeth, daughter of Adam Glegg, of Montrose, died on the 25th February, 1851: she is commemorated on the same tombstone. Two of their sons, Sir Alexander and Charles Burnes, were massacred at Cabool, India, on the 2nd November, 1841. A monument is reared to the memory of Captain George Eddington, who died on the 10th December, 1851, and of his sons Captain George Eddington and Lieutenant Edward W. Eddin...
