We may be thought to have exceeded our jurisdiction in. thus noticing the case of Bell versus Bunn; hut we consider the drama ought not to be regarded as a mere idle exhibition of painted scenes and gewgaws to excite the wonder and passions of the vulgar--it ought to aim at a higher moral and intellectual purpose, and we must say, that although the apology of Mr. Bunn (in which he acknowledges that it is one of our best of modern comedies) may be accepted by Mr. Bell, it cannot by any means be satisfactory to dramatic authors, or any persons who really feel interested in the drama. Mallet, the celebrated engineer, who was sent specially by the French government to study the system of atmospheric railways at Dublin, has jnst published his report. He states the advantages of that system to be--oil danger of accidents from fire is avoided, an almost impossibility of the carriages running off the road, and the utter impossibility of a collision between two trains. All the objections raised against the atmospheric system have been examined by M. Mallet, and this distinguished mathematician asserts that none of them are insurmountable; but one of the principal advantages of this system consists in its preventing the necessity of levelling the soil according to the present ntethod. M. Mallet has likewise made a comparative calculation of the the payment of 650 towards the expenses incurred by Mr. Bell in printing the comedy, as well as his legal expenses, and of ceding to him the entire right of representing that comedy.
