Maurice Bloomfield's classic study of Cerberus traces this three-headed dog back to its Indo-European mythic origins to explain just why the Greeks placed this strange beast at the gates of the Underworld. This edition is an unabridged republication of Cerberus, The Dog of Hades published by The Open Court Publishing Co. in 1905. A new appendix of selections from standard sources and original translations has been prepared specially for this edition.
