At long last an Index for research purposes of the East-West (Inner Culture) magazine! This book indexes the TOCs (Tables of Content) of the otherwise difficult to read PDF versions of the early years of the East-West magazine! These TOCs are thoroughly OCR’d. An unOCR’d PDF version is available for free download at http://amanuensis.us/page9.html. This book will increase researchers' ability to quickly identify when various authors and their topics were published, and it should help greatly to dispel some of the confusion held by devotees who are unaware of SRF history. For instance Yogananda's early public endorsement of both Hitler and Mussolini is unknown to many historians. Those endorsements are rich with historical significance.Another example of history illustrated in this TOC is the rejection by other authors of the eugenics movement in the East-West magazine; however Yogananda appears to endorse in his "Your Praecepta" mail-order lessons the phrenology movement (associated with the eugenics movement).A note for those who wanted to find an Index listing on Adolf Hitler: unlike Mussolini none of Hitler’s writings were reprinted in the East-West magazine, nor was an entire article devoted to him. That is why Hitler’s name is not in this Index. Mussolini's article is "Science and Religion," (Vol II No. 4 May-June, 1927, p. 10; in this Index p. 13).Yogananda speaks highly of Mussolini as a "Master Mind" in a 1934 speech labeled "An Interview," published on pg 3 and 25 in the February Issue. However, Yogananda references Hitler in the East-West magazine as follows: “Hitler is to be admired for leaving the League of Nations because peace can never be attained by the victor and vanquished attitude, but only on a basis of equality and brotherhood. Instead of preventing Hitler from having equal armament with other nations, the other nations should reduce armaments to the level of Germany . . . An insulted, snubbed Germany, if it gets away from the uplifting guidance of Hitler . . . “(East-West Magazine, December, 1933, p. 25).Contact Donald Castellano-Hoyt at dcastellano.hoyt@gmail.com with any questions or concerns.
