Dr. Keith Meyer is an internationally recognized expert in advanced lung disease and lung transplantation. After serving in the US Navy during the Vietnam War (1968-1974), he earned Bachelor and Master degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he subsequently completed a residency and chief residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine. He joined the medical faculty at UW-Madison in 1988 where he was a physician-scientist and tenured professor. Professor Meyer performed basic and clinical research in interstitial lung disease, sarcoidosis, pulmonary infections, lung immunology, cystic fibrosis, and lung ageing. He served as Medical Director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Clinic, Medical Director of the UW Lung Transplant Program, and Director of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program at UW. Dr. Meyer authored over 300 published manuscripts and book chapters, served as a principal investigator for over 50 clinical trials, and edited numerous books on various forms of lung disease. Dr. Meyer is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American College of Physicians (ACP). He is currently Professor of Medicine (Emeritus) and Honorary Fellow at UW-Madison.
Muhunthan Thillai, BA, MBBS, MRCP, PhD is Consultant Physician specialising in Interstitial Lung Diseases at the Royal Papworth Hospital in Cambridge, UK. He graduated from St. Mary’s Medical School in London 2002 with his medical degree and a BA in medical journalism. He began his training as a junior doctor in London and Oxford where he gained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians. He was then appointed as the Infectious Diseases Fellow on the Map of Medicine project at NHS Connecting for Health and as Editor-in-Chief of Junior Dr magazine, before being awarded a personal Research Training Fellowship from the Wellcome Trust. This allowed him to undertake three years of scientific research into sarcoidosis which culminated in a PhD in Immunology and Proteomics from Imperial College London. He continued his medical training in lung cancer, pulmonary vascular disorders and lung transplantation in Cambridge before being appointed as a consultant Physician in 2014.
Dr. Steve Nathan is an internationally recognized expert in advanced lung diseases, including pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension (PH) associated with chronic lung diseases. He currently is the Schar Chair of the Advanced Lung Disease and Lung Transplant Program at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA. Dr. Nathan received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School in Johannesburg, South Africa. He subsequently completed a Residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island Jewish Hospital in New York and Fellowships in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine and Lung Transplantation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA. He has been at Inova Fairfax Hospital since 1996. In addition to his role in patient care, Dr. Nathan is a Professor at the University of Virginia and a prolific researcher who has authored more than 500 publications, including original research manuscripts, reviews, book chapters, and books on idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). He serves as a reviewer for several medical journals and is on the editorial board for the journal Thorax. He co-chaired the 6th World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension Task Force for Group 3 PH in 2018 and is the current Chair of the Group 3 PH Committee for the Pulmonary Vascular Research Institute’s International Drug Development Institute. He has also served on multiple committees for clinical trials in IPF and PH and has been on multiple US Food and Drug Administration advisory boards. Additionally, he is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians (CHEST) and received the 2023 CHEST College Medal Award for meritorious service in advancing chest disease research and treatment.
