Synopsis

This volume presents "Records of the Jews in Rome and Their Inscriptions From Ancient Catacombs," a paper read before the Literary and Philosophical Society of Liverpool in 1895 by B. L. Benas. The work delves into the historical presence of Jewish communities in Rome, examining archaeological evidence gleaned from ancient catacombs. Benas's study offers valuable insights into the lives, culture, and religious practices of Jews living in Rome during antiquity.

The book provides transcriptions and interpretations of inscriptions found within the catacombs, shedding light on the social structures, personal beliefs, and communal identities of Roman Jews. This historical record serves as a critical resource for scholars and anyone interested in the interplay between Jewish diaspora communities and the broader Roman world.
