Henceforth financial crises came to seem normal and legitimate, caused by impersonal international markets, with the costs borne by domestic populations and nobody in particular at fault. Impunity and Capitalism examines the evolution of economic impunity in Europe across the long eighteenth century with a focus on several international financial crises: 1709, 1720, 179397 and 1825.
