Shredded, the first book in the Broken series, was brilliant. Sometimes sequels fall short of their predecessors, and I was almost afraid to start Shattered in case it disappointed.
It did NOT.
The characters grow even more in this book, the stakes are even higher, it plunges you into more emotional highs and lows, and you want to go out and change the world after reading this. Or at least find your own Candy to befriend and learn from.
Kimberly portrays people at their realistically psychologically deepest, while not shying away from pointedly in-your-face gospel truths. I appreciate her heart for women and heart for Christ most in the way she writes the human heart.
The series keeps getting better and better, and I can't wait for book #3!

How can so much be packed into one book making it interesting, informative, compelling, convicting, motivating and uplifting? In a fiction format, Shattered helps the reader understand the evils of human trafficking and sexual abuse without bringing in the specifics of the abuse. It also points out the weaknesses of many Christians and of ministry in many Christian churches through the eyes of a new Christian, a former prostitute.
Don't read Shattered before you read the first book, Shredded, the beginning of the story. The main characters continue in this book and, together, they face the human trafficking and abuse problems. The reformed prostitute, now a believer, surprises everyone with her eagerness to reach others in slavery to prostitution, especially those under age. The pastor and the whole church face many questions about ministry and about their own Christian walk.
On finishing the book I still want to know what will happen in the future and I eagerly await the next book in the Broken series. The story was so interesting and gripping that it was hard to stop reading when I needed to do other things
Shattered would be an excellent choice for a book club to read and discuss.

Shattered was a great book. Kimberly Rae handles the difficult subject of human trafficking in a very informative, but appropriate way. Do not avoid this book because of the subject. Her characters become friends very quickly. It is a book that is hard to put down! I am anxiously awaiting the third in this series.

Kimberly Rae Thigpen is my favorite author - hands down!!! She takes a story and makes it so real that it pulls you in until you can't put the book down. Her books are not the kind of Christian fiction books where you get into some of the storylines and feel that you have to turn the pages without reading them because you are embarrassed by what the author is writing. While this book deals with adult themes, it is done with love, grace and completely shows the mercy of Christ as the Bible does for all of us. I love how she completely redirects our thinking and judging of people who have lived lifestyles that we do not understand and pulls us into their world and shows us the love from our almighty God has through His forgiveness for all.

I love this book! Kimberly Rae is a fabulous author! I've read tons of inspirational fiction books, and hers are definitely at the top of the list. Romance, suspense, humor, down-to- earth, current topics, adventure, interesting characters, and always full of hope and God's grace. You get the whole package. This is fun to read, but also educational, thought-provoking, and fiction with a purpose. It definitely kept my interest and made me rethink some of my preconceived notions about current issues. Yes it's fiction, but reading this book is time well-spent.
