Synopsis

In 1940, when World War II breaks out in Europe, two Dutch families living in S. Africa, decide to move to the Dutch East Indies, presently known as Indonesia. Two years later, when the Japanese invade and occupy the island of Java, one of the archipelago's major islands, the two families inadvertently get caught up in the war in the Pacific. This story follows the fate of the two families, who miraculously survive and return to S. Africa as refugees. The storyline in Tjideng Reunion is set against the backdrop of World War II in the Pacific theater.
