About the Author

Professor Narayanan is the Thomas D. Casserly, Jr. Professor of Business Administration at the Harvard Business School (HBS) and the Chair of the Elective Curriculum of the MBA program. He joined the HBS faculty in 1994 and has taught in several MBA, doctoral, and executive-education programs. He was the head of the Accounting and Management Unit at HBS from 2010 - 2015. In 2014, he developed the online accounting course in HBX CORe, and he continues to teach this course to thousands of students each year. His expertise is in corporate governance, executive compensation design, performance measurement, supply chain management, and cost accounting. A recipient of several awards, Professor Narayanan has published articles and papers in several leading academic and practitioner-oriented journals, including the Harvard Business Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, Journal of Accounting and Economics, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Cost Management, Journal of Economics and Management Strategy, and the Management Science journal. He works with many companies in a variety of industries and locations all over the globe and has authored over seventy-five cases. Professor Narayanan has been interviewed and quoted by leading newspapers on issues relating to compensation, supply chain management, and accounting standards. He is a member of the American Accounting Association, and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He also serves on the board of directors of Leader Bank, Arlington, MA, the board of trustees of Fessenden School in Newton, MA, and the advisory board of SB International, Dallas, TX. Professor Narayanan earned his Ph.D. in Business Administration, MA in Economics, and MS in Statistics at Stanford University. He received his Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (Ahmedabad). He is a Chartered Accountant from India.
