Synopsis
The Honesty Pot is the inside story of the Pierian Centre in St Pauls, Bristol and the woman who guided it on a turbulent 10-year journey. Author Nick Thomas profiles the vision and values of founder June Burrough, and the experiences that enabled her to build a Centre that managed to be both challenging and cherishing. The story moves from her career in theatre, through her adoption by aborigines in Arnhem Land to a Grade 1 listed building in an inner-city district shunned by those who knew only its reputation. June's vision was tested to the limit as the business grew, but the Pierian Centre's success was due to her refusal to compromise the values that her vision enshrined. Instead she threw down a gauntlet, raising questions about the way we live, do business and treat the communities around us. In promoting humanity above the profit motive, she asked: Can we live as full human beings in the modern world? About the Author
Nick Thomas' career started in theatre as actor and playwright. The Honesty Pot is his first work of non-fiction. It chronicles his seven year relationship with June Burrough, and explores the meaning of the work undertaken at her Pierian Centre where, among other tasks, he handled Press and PR. He's now embarked on his first novel, set in Bristol in 1787 and entitled A Heart in Flames, a Key.
